What is Widespan shelving?

What is Widespan shelving – is it the same as Longspan shelving?
Widespan (aka Longspan) is a hand loaded steel shelving system where the shelf size (left to right width) is normally between 1200mm and 2700mm.   Normal frame height is between 2000 – 3000mm and the shelf medium is usually chipboard or steel panels.

So why is Widespan so popular?
Its because its such a versatile shelving system.  Todays widespan systems uses fully adjustable shelf beams  (clip-on design with no nuts & bolts) so shelf  levels can be change within minutes.    It comes in a wide range of shelf sizes and frame heights and because each shelf can carry higher weight loads over a greater span,  the system uses less components and therefore costs less per sq.metre of shelf space

Widespan can be used to store anything from small cartons to large boxes or components ….in fact anything a person can lift.
Its ideal for wholesalers, cash & carries, factories, archive file storage, clothes & garment traders….etc etc

Dexion compatibility

Attention all Dexion Racking users

If your Dexion racking system has sustained damage and you need to buy replacement parts Universal Storage Equipment can supply New and Used spare parts for all specifications – usually in a matter of days.

Since 1997, Universal Storage Equipment has fulfilled over 10,000 orders for New and Used replacement parts.  Thousands of leading UK companies including most of  the UK PLC companies such as ASDA, Morrisons, Marks & Spencers etc , now rely on  Universal to supply a wide range of components and complete extension systems for existing Dexion pallet racking.
These millions of parts are routinely inspected by Safety Auditors at sites throughout the UK and are passed without a single issue regarding compatibility or safety.

If you wish you know more about Universal’s products and services or have been given conflicting advice about the suitability of obtaining Dexion parts from an ‘alternative’ supplier, we’d like to hear from you…..

I’d like to clear up a few myths regarding the use of compatible components for Dexion racking.

Myth #1 : ‘Compatible components are unsafe.’
Since 1997 Universal has fulfilled over 10,000 orders for its ‘Dexion compatible’  components for repairs/extensions to Dexion Speedlock racking – without a single warranty or safety issue.  This impeccable safety record is clear proof that our Compatible components are safe to use.   Why else would the UK’s biggest PLC companies re-order time and time again…..!

Myth #2 :‘Compatibles are made from inferior steel’
Inferior to what? : to original Dexion or the new, so called ‘genuine’ Dexion?
Our components are made in the EU by a former licenced manufacturer.  All raw materials used in the production of our products meet the design specfications which were set out by Dexion Ltd under the original licence agreement. All steel materials are traceable, verifiable and can be validated by metallurgic testing.

Myth #3  : ‘Dexion does not recommend using different manufacturers products in the same system.’
Clearly this does not apply to Universal since the products we supply were originally designed and licensed by Dexion and they share the same dimensions and technical performance.

However, we agree, it would be wrong to combine products which are designed differently and whose components have entirely different dimensions and techncal specification.
e.g Link 51 racking cannot be mixed with Dexion – they were never design to be interchanged.

Myth #4 : ‘If you mix different manufacturers products in the same system, Dexion will cancel its warranty’
Actually, Dexion Ltd went bankrupt in 2003 and no longer exists and therefore there are no warranties on pre-2003 systems, which account for nearly all the structures we’re involved with.

Myth #5 : ‘Insurance Companies will not sanction the use of compatibles’
We have never come across any such problem.  Where insurance companies are aware of the provenance of our compatible racking and our 100% perfect safety record, then we cannot see any issues.
We do know of instances where certain competitors have used this issue as a scaremongering tactic.

If you have any comments or questions regarding any of these myths – we’d like to hear from you.
